First Test at Nogaro

February 13, 2002

(Nogaro, France) - All 25 Formula Campus drivers travelled to southern France to participate in a 3-day test session at the Nogaro racetrack. The group of drivers was divided into three groups, each group receiving a full day of testing at the track.

The first group was strictly composed of the "Pole Espoirs" drivers, young racers between the ages of 16 to 18 who compete among themselves for a prize at the end of the year for the highest-placing student with the best grades.

The second group of drivers, which Emmanuel Crouvisier again tested with, consisted of another group of top French drivers.

The third group primarily consists of the foreign racers who are still learning French, along with several top go-karting champions.

The weather was absolutely beautiful for the first two days of testing, with each of the first two groups completing approximately three hours of testing each. The weather was not nearly as pleasant for the third group, however, as the group met with a damp track in the morning, and continuous rain in the afternoon.

Although no official timing was conducted this week, the mechanics used their own stopwatches to get some times on the fastest drivers. The fastest time on the newly repaved track was a low 1:41 lap set by Emmanuel Crouvisier, followed by several 1:42's set by French go-karters Romain Despres and Jean-Baptiste Castille.

Quickest of the third group of drivers in wet conditions were Romanian Constantin Raileanu and young American Vinay Basavaraja.

Testing continues next week at the famous Formula 1 racetrack, Magny-Cours, in central France.
