Testing With the New Mygale Cars

March 20, 2002

(Nevers, France) ヨ After a one month break from testing, all 25 of the Formula Campus drivers are testing the new Mygale racecars this week at the Club track of the Magny-Cours grand prix circuit. All of the missing parts finally arrived at the La Filière headquarters in Le Mans, France, late last week. Many thanks to the mechanics who put in 12+ hours every day over the last week to finish putting the new cars together.

The Formula Campus drivers were again split in three groups, with Emmanuel Crouvisier joining the French go-kart champions and the international drivers for the first time on the track. While testing on Tuesday was overshadowed by rain the entire morning, the track began to dry up in the afternoon, and after a switch to slicks, the lap times continued to drop steadily throughout the day. As the drivers became more and more acquainted with the new cars, the faster they went ヨ far surpassing the limits of the old Formula Campus cars that had been in used in testing thus far.

Because of the weather conditions and the introduction of the new cars, no official times were taken until the second session on Wednesday. Unfortunately, Crouvisier was unable to participate in any of the timed sessions due to a miscalculation in track time, and was only able to compare himself to his track position in relation to the other drivers. This in and of itself looked promising however, as Crouvisier was consistently in the top three of his group throughout all of the sessions.

Timed laps showed Olivier Malo as the quickest overall, with Julien Poncelet, Julien Menard and Loïc Duval close behind. Again quick were Vinay Basavaraja and Constantin Raileanu, though both struggled with handling problems as the testing wore on.

Testing continues next week at Nogaro, with two short test sessions scheduled just before the first race of the 2002 season.
